3 Juveniles arrested
LONGPORT – Police here arrested three juveniles without incident Sunday morning charging them with burglary, theft and defiant trespass.
Sgt. Gabriel Guerrieri and Officer Matthew Long responded to a report of suspicious activity and potential burglary in progress in the area of S. 15th Avenue.
During their search of the area the officers located three male juveniles on a nearby construction site. Through a quick and thorough on-scene investigation, officers determined that the three juveniles were actively involved in committing vehicle burglaries in the neighborhood.
All three juveniles were taken into custody without incident and transported to police headquarters for processing.
Following consultation with the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, the juveniles were formally charged on summonses with Burglary (N.J.S.A. 2C:18-2), Theft (N.J.S.A. 2C:20-3), and Defiant Trespass (N.J.S.A. 2C:18-3).
In accordance with New Jersey juvenile justice directives, all three juveniles were released to the custody of their parents/guardians pending appearances in Atlantic County Family Court.
The Margate City Police Department assisted at the scene.
“Their quick response and seamless mutual aid coordination were instrumental in helping secure the perimeter and safely apprehend the suspects,” Public Information Officer Quinton Wright said in a release.
“While our officers remain watchful on patrol, community safety is a true partnership, and many vehicle burglaries remain crimes of opportunity targeting unlocked doors,” he advised.
The Longport Police Department strongly urges all residents and visitors to practice the 9 PM Routine:
- Lock your vehicle doors every night
- Remove all key fobs, spare keys, and valuables from inside
- Secure all garage and home entryways
“Most importantly, if you see something suspicious, such as unfamiliar individuals walking driveway to driveway or looking into vehicles, say something immediately,” police advised.
