The Downbeach communities of Ventnor, Margate and Longport will spend time Friday commemorating the 25thanniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. that took the lives of 2,977 people.
Longport will hold its brief but meaningful service 9 a.m. Sept. 11 at Thomas B. Reed Park at the foot of the Longport bridge, 28th and Oberon avenues. American Legion Post 469 will preside over a solemn service that includes remarks from public officials.
Also at 9 a.m., Margate Fire Department will hold its service in front of Firehouse No. 1 at Washington and Atlantic avenues. The service includes prayers by local clergy, musical tributes and remarks from local officials, and the ringing of the Four Fives.
At 10 a.m., Ventnor joins Atlantic City first responders for the Saracini-O’Neill Memorial Service in the park adjacent to the Atlantic City Boardwalk at Jackson Avenue. The ceremony will feature an honor guard, wreath placement, patriotic music, a bell ceremony and more. This year’s ceremony will also honor Atlantic City native Lt. Cmdr. Shane Fox, U.S. Navy (Ret.), with the 2026 Hero Award
