VENTNOR — The Board of Jewish Education will host the South Jersey Jewish Hall of Fame, a special brunch celebration honoring 18 extraordinary individuals whose lives, leadership and dedication shaped the Jewish community of South Jersey, 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 9 at Shirat Hayam, 700 N. Swarthmore Ave.
The Hall of Fame event will bring together community members from across the region for a meaningful morning of recognition and celebration of Jewish communal history.
“This program is about honoring the people whose vision, service, and commitment built and strengthened Jewish life in South Jersey,” BJE Director Josh Cutler said. “Their stories continue to inspire future generations and remind us of the remarkable legacy of leadership within our community.”
The first Hall of Fame class of 18 includes:

- Sam Azeez
- Professor Louis Mounier
- H.L. Sabscovitch
- Harry Cassman
- Rabbi Seymour Rosen
- Rabbi Moshe Shapiro
- Sadie Rose Weilerstein
- Jack Trocki
- Al Gold
- Eric Seelig
- Uncle Sam Greenberg
- Esther Raab
- Miles Lerman
- Bernie Friedenberg
- Rabbi Morris Fishman
- Rabbi Gordon Geller
- Gail Rosenthal
The program will feature reflections on the honorees’ contributions to Jewish education, philanthropy, religious leadership, civic engagement, Holocaust remembrance, business and cultural life throughout South Jersey.
Cutler said he hopes the event becomes an ongoing program with new inductees that evolves into a traveling exhibition . The second class is already in the works, he said.
The event is free and open to the community. RSVP is required.
