VENTNOR – The Board of Commissioners July 9 honored two Ventnor students who are recipients of the Levine-Gormley STEM Scholars Pathway Program scholarships at Stockton University.
Noel Cordero and Shaina Mendonsa were recognized by the commissioners and former NJ Sen. Bill Gormley and Lee Levine, who provided the funding to award scholarships to students advancing their education in the sciences.
The program, established in January, provides seniors with a scholarship to major in science, technology, engineering or mathematics degree programs at Stockton.
The students, who are both graduates of Atlantic County Institute of Technology, were recognized with Certificates of Achievement for their hard work, passion for innovation and commitment to their education.
Lee Levine and his wife Sandra, and Gormley and his wife Virginia, committed $2 million to the Stockton University Foundation earlier this year to establish the program. They are community leaders with a long history of civic engagement and philanthropy in the region.
The program also provides funding for ACIT juniors to take dual-credit classes at Stockton University.
