MARGATE – The Lynn Kramer Village by the Shore at Jewish Family Service offers cool programs during the hot summer season. Here’s your chance to participate in seven fun, unique, and entertaining programs in July.
Thoughts from the Bookshelf, Tuesday, July 7, 3 p.m.
Join Village Community Specialist Tina Serota for a book club gathering to discuss the 2025 Barnes & Noble novel of the year and international best-seller “Mona’s Eyes” by Thomas Schlesser. Fifty-two weeks is all of the time 10-year-old Mona has to learn about beauty before she loses her eyesight forever. Every Wednesday, Mona’s grandfather picks her up after school and takes her to see a great work of art. Together, on their visit to Paris’ museums, they experience enchantment and sadness. Most important, they grow even closer and learn to lean on each other as Mona discovers the power of art and the meaning of generosity, doubt, melancholy, and loss. “Mona’s Eyes” is a beautiful novel about the fullness of life and an enthralling guide to the world’s most renowned art. ADL at the Shore: Antisemitism in the U.S. – Educate. Engage. Empower. Wednesday, July 22, 6:45 p.m.
Join a special program focusing on ADL’s work, the current state of antisemitism, how we are personally impacted, and what we can do to combat the hatred. Attend at Stockton University Atlantic City Campus Auditorium, 3711 Atlantic Ave., Atlantic City. RSVP by July 17.
Summer Road Trip: Woodbine Synagogues, Soil, and South Jersey Jewish Life, Thursday, July 23, 9:30 a.m.
In the 1890s, hundreds of Jewish immigrants fleeing pogroms in Tsarist Russia settled in South Jersey and built a self-governing Jewish colony on the edge of the Pine Barrens, rooted in farming, industry and community. Enjoy a bagel brunch, brief lecture and guided tour of the 130-year-old synagogue and museum. Hosted by the Board of Jewish Education and The Lynn Kramer Village by the Shore. Limited space on the bus. Meet at the Katz JCC, 501 N. Jerome Ave,, Margate. Attendees may also drive to the program. RSVP by July 16.
The Jewish South: American History with Associate Professor Shari Rabin, Wednesday, July 29, 7 p.m.
Historian of American religions and modern Judaism, Associate Professor of Jewish Studies and Religion at Oberlin College Shari Rabin, has recovered a neglected facet of the American experience in her book, “The Jewish South.” Rabin shares the story through the eyes of people with a distinctive religious heritage and southern history older than the U.S. Following the presentation, attendees will enjoy a Kosher dessert reception.
