LONGPORT – Young adults are busy at this time of year wrapping up the school year, moving state to state, starting new jobs or continuing their education during the summer months. That’s why many of the recipients of this year’s Herb Stern Longport Scholarship Fund scholarships were not available to accept their awards in person.
Instead, siblings and parents stepped up to receive their certificates and checks that will help them advance their higher education goals.
This year, the fund awarded $30,000 in scholarships to 17 deserving Longport students who are in college or graduate school. Presentations were made during the June 17 Board of Commissioners meeting.

Fund President Herb Stern, who turns 100 later this summer, was present to present the scholarships along with board members who raise funds throughout the year to ensure the program keeps going.
