The Cape May County Bridge Commission will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony 11 a.m. Friday, June 5 following an estimated $700,000 upgrade to the Ocean City Fishing Pier, located across from what is known locally as Longport “dog beach” at the foot of the Ocean City-Longport bridge.

The pier was upgraded to include amenities fishers, families and picnickers will enjoy. The 500-foot-long pier, which overlooks the Great Egg Harbor Bay, southern portion of Ocean City and the wetlands of Egg Harbor Township, has been closed since March to accommodate the improvement project conducted by the Cape May County Bridge Commission. It reopened Memorial Day weekend.

The project replaced dilapidated wooden railings and fencing, repaired concrete decking, and installed new portable johns, benches, trash receptacles and picnic tables.

Walters Marine Construction Co., Inc. of Ocean View, Dennis Township, did the work.
