ATLANTIC CITY – Mosaic recently awarded a $7,500 community grant to Create48 AC to support Mosaic Paintings, a community-based art initiative in Atlantic City designed to engage older adults. The initiative brings seniors together through hands-on art experiences that encourage self-expression, socialization and community engagement.

The grant is part of Mosaic’s new Community Grants initiative, which funds innovative local programs that enhance quality of life for older adults and their caregivers. Create48 will use the funds to create the first public mural in the city designed, painted and installed by seniors.

“We want people to actually think about who the seniors in their life are,” Create48 Executive Director Zachary Katzen said. “Your coworker. Your kid’s favorite teacher. The artist behind the mural you stop to photograph downtown. A lot of them are already seniors, and you would never know it. They are running businesses, raising grandkids, mentoring the next generation, and putting in more work than most of us, with decades of knowledge they are ready to pass down if anyone bothers to ask. Their hands helped build this city. Now their hands will help paint it.”

Mosaic works to create a supportive environment for seniors guided by the Jewish tradition of compassion and charity. Through its five pillars, Mosaic advocates for seniors, providing vital resources for Alzheimer’s and dementia care, family support, community connection, education and a wide range of services and programs.
