OCEAN CITY – As of 2:05 p.m. May 21, the swimmer missing off the coast of Ocean City has not been located.

The search intensive three-day search for the missing swimmer will now transition to a recovery mission, according to Lt. Dan Lancaster of the Ocean City Police Department.

Members of the Ocean City Fire Department, the Ocean City Beach Patrol and the Ocean City Police Department will be actively working in the recovery mission and continue to request additional assets as necessary to assist in that effort, he said.

“Both the police and fire departments thank all the agencies and personnel that responded and assisted in the search over the last four days,” he said in a release.

Members of the Ocean City Fire and Police departments, along with the NJ State Police and U.S. Coast Guard, have been searchng for a 20-year-old boogie boarder since about 5 p.m. Monday evening.

The Longport Volunteer Fire Department and the Cape May County Drone Task Force were also deployed in the effort.

According to published reports, the man was boogie boarding with a friend when he was hit by a wave, went under the water and did not surface. His partner, yet to be identified, was able to be rescued.

Public safety officials advise visitors to swim only where a lifeguard is present.
