OCEAN CITY – After a tireless effort, a swimmer missing off the beach at 10th Street has yet to be located.
According to a release circulated by Ocean City Public Information Officer Doug Bergen, the search will continue into Thursday.
Members of the Ocean City Fire and Police departments, along with the NJ State Police and U.S. Coast Guard, have been searching for a 20-year-old boogie boarder since early Monday evening.
The Longport Volunteer Fire Department and the Cape May County Drone Task Force have also been deployed in the effort.
According to published reports, the man was boogie boarding with a friend when he was hit by a wave, went under the water and did not surface. His partner, yet to be identified, was able to be rescued.
“We ask the public to please continue to avoid 10th Street and the beach to provide personnel an area to coordinate search efforts,” Lt. Dan Lancaster of the Ocean City Police Department said in the release.
Public safety officials advise visitors to swim only where a lifeguard is present.
