Longport Police Officers Lian Nolan and Matthew Long May 13 had the opportunity to meet with members of the borough’s senior citizen community during a community luncheon hosted by the Longport Public Library in Commission Chambers at Borough Hall.
The presentation focused on scams and cybersecurity awareness along with summer safety reminders for the busy months ahead.
Community members were encouraged to:
• Never provide personal or banking information to unknown callers or unsolicited messages
• Verify suspicious requests with trusted family members, financial institutions and/or official agencies
• Immediately report scams and suspicious activity to law enforcement
Residents were also reminded to watch for common scam red flags, including urgency, threats or intimidation, suspicious links or attachments contained in emails, unusual requests for payments or personal information.
“Community awareness and education remain some of the most effective tools in preventing crime and keeping our residents safe,” they said.
If you believe you may have been targeted by a scam or have questions regarding suspicious activity, call the Longport Police Department at 609- 822-2141.
