LONGPORT – The last day of April was “recovery” day for the Longport Police Department. Not only did the police recover a stolen vehicle, they recovered a missing person from Cape May County.

According to a police report, police responded to the report of a motor vehicle theft in the area of Atlantic and 35thavenues. Police responded at 3 p.m. following another incident that involved the attempted theft of a scooter in Margate. Police believe the two incidents were associated with the same suspect.

Longport police were able to use their investigative tools to track the vehicle’s movements in real-time through multiple jurisdictions. Information relayed to Absecon Police resulted in finding the vehicle on Route 30. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and the vehicle returned to its owner.

Then, just after midnight on May 1, Officer Nolan saw a vehicle traveling slowly near S. 17th Avenue, which police said indicated the possibility of a lost motorist.

Nolan approached the vehicle to discover the driver had been reported as a missing person out of Cape May County. Police escorted the woman to a location on the Garden State Parkway where she was turned over to Middle Township Police for safe return to her home.

“These outcomes are a direct result of proactive patrol efforts and the effective exchange of information between our regional public safety partners,” Police said in the release.
